PASO ROBLES — An effort is under way to bring a shade structure to the Uptown Family Park.
Mayor Steven Martin and City Councilmember Steve Gregory organized the Made in the Shade event set for Aug. 25 at Rava Winery.
The event will include a sparkling wine reception with appetizers, beverages from Firestone Walker and J. Lohr Winery, a full dinner and dessert provided by the Paso Robles Unified School District Culinary Program and Chef Gregg Wangard, live music and dancing, a tour of Rava Winery’s sparkling program, games including Left Right Center dice game and more.
Rava Winery is located at 6785 Creston Road in Paso Robles.
Paso Robles Mayor Martin and Councilman Gregory stated the goal is to raise $50,000 in donations.
Tickets are $100 and on sale now at Brown Paper Tickets.
The park sits at 641 36th St. on the corner of Spring and 36th streets, one block east of Georgia Brown Elementary. The park was funded in full by a $2.5 million grant. The city was awarded a Proposition 84 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Grant.
During construction, design issues prevented the installation of the necessary shade structures.
The park is used by over 1,000 kids in the nearby neighborhood and 600 students at Georgia Brown Elementary. Shade structures could increase usage of the play structure by 50 percent, according to published reports, because when the temperature rises over 80 degrees, it is not usable.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 25, at 5:30 p.m. at Rava Winery, one of the event’s major sponsors. There will be live music by Ricky Montijo and the Mojitos with dancing.
Sponsorships are still being sought. Major donors will receive a plaque at the park for recognition.
