SLO County confirmed a total of 33 cases of COVID-19 now being treated
San Luis Obispo County Administrative Officer Wade Horton and County Health Officer Penny Borenstein provided the County’s daily press update on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Each provided updates for their respective offices.
The County has been receiving calls about businesses not complying with the shelter-at-home order and will be providing a hotline for those calls to be listed at readyslo.org when available.
“Our goal is to achieve voluntary compliance,” Horton said. “We are focused on partnership to protect our community.”
Horton also reiterated the need for local blood donations.
Borenstein updated on the health department issues as of Monday, including updates on local spread of COVID-19.
“We are now at 33 cases,” Borenstein said. “Two of them are hospitalized. Three of our cases are fully recovered.”
Borenstein and Horton both encouraged social distancing, and Borenstein explained why six feet is the number used for distancing.
“We are getting calls about people on bicycles who are not six feet apart,” Borenstein said. “I ask the public to adhere to consistent social distancing. We’d like to balance that with not hearing every time a mother and child are walking on the beach.”
Borenstein noted that concerns she heard from people were about the canvas bags people are bringing into the grocery store being sources of transmission of COVID-19.
“I can’t say there is no chance of transmission there,” Borenstein said, “but it is extremely low. Or what about my friend and I playing tennis, we are at opposite sides of the court, but what about the ball that we are hitting back and forth. Those are not instances of high communicability of this disease.”
Borenstein confirmed that counties are sharing information between each other regarding residents of those counties. When a SLO County resident is tested outside of the county, the information is shared with the resident’s home county.
