Jordan Bullard scores two goals in less than a minute

PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles High School girls soccer defeated Righetti 2-0 on Thursday night to move to 1-0 in the Mountain League after two weeks off for winter break.

The game between the Bearcats (5-7-2) and the Warriors (2-6-2) was scheduled for 2 p.m. but was pushed back to 6 p.m. due to Righetti forgetting the game was on their schedule, per sources.

The game was played fairly even through the first 15 minutes until senior captain Jordan Bullard and the Bearcats’ offense erupted for two goals, less than a minute apart.

Both of the goals came off of corner kicks and were served up by sophomore Rayvin Wulfing.

The first came from the home side at War Memorial Stadium (videos provided below) as Wulfing stood underneath the scoreboard while searching for her go-to weapon. After a quick survey of the land, she served the ball into the box. It floated past everyone and onto the charging body of Bullard, who knocked it into the back of the net.

Following the score, the Warriors kicked off and the Bearcats immediately stole the ball and raced down the sideline bouncing a shot off the keeper for another corner.

This time from the visitor’s side, Wulfing sent one toward the 6-yard box, and rather than waiting, this time, Bullard charged forward and buried the ball and the Warriors’ hopes of winning in the process.

Thursday’s matchup with the Warriors was the Bearcats’ first league game of the season. Their schedule quickly becomes a lot tougher in the coming weeks.

Next up for the Bearcats is four consecutive matchups with league opponents that are all over .500 on the season, including the reigning CIF champions, the SLO Tigers on Jan. 17. First up, the girls play a pair of home games next weekend, starting with St. Joseph on Tuesday, followed by Arroyo Grande on Thursday.

Paso Robles replaced 11 seniors from their team a year ago and has spent the early part of the season building cohesion between the girls.

The Bearcats will need to lean on their defense in the upcoming stretch, which has been excellent in their last five games, only allowing two goals and posting three shutouts.
