Wine Country Theatre brings ‘Matilda the Musical’ to Templeton Stage this Summer

PASO ROBLES — Wine Country Theatre will present Matilda the Musical at the Templeton Performing Arts Center from July 31 through Aug. 9.

Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, the musical follows Matilda, a gifted young girl who uses her intelligence, imagination, and courage to overcome challenges at home and school. The production has earned international acclaim, winning four Tony Awards and seven Olivier Awards.

Directed by Emmy-nominated choreographer and director Doriana Sanchez, the show features a cast of more than 30 local performers. Sanchez, who was raised in Atascadero and spent more than three decades working with Cher as a director, choreographer, and creative consultant, said the musical’s message of standing up for what is right makes it especially meaningful.

"This show is a timeless classic," says Sanchez. "It holds a special place in my heart because it's a story about standing up for what's right,  even when the odds are stacked against you. The combination of humor, magic,  and heart drew me to this musical, as well as the exceptional local talent, and  I'm thrilled to be directing it for Wine Country Theatre."

Founded more than 12 years ago, Wine Country Theatre produces a variety of community theater performances and welcomes participants of all ages and experience levels.

"We welcome participants of all ages and levels of experience," says Founder and Executive Director Cynthia Anthony. "With Doriana Sanchez at the helm,  audiences will be amazed by the professional caliber of this production. The  talent, energy, and dedication of our cast and creative team make this a truly  special show."

Performances will be held on Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through My805Tix and the theater’s website, Wine Country Theatre.
