Smoking materials blamed for Paso Robles duplex fire

PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a multi-family structure fire Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 19, that started on an exterior deck and spread to nearby vegetation.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 1:56 p.m. to the 300 block of Vine Street. First responders found light smoke coming from a raised-foundation duplex. One unit was occupied at the time, and firefighters assisted a resident and her dog safely out of the building.

Firefighters contained the fire to the deck and exterior of the structure, preventing it from spreading into the attic or interior living space. No injuries were reported.

A total of 12 firefighters responded from Paso Robles and Cal Fire/San Luis Obispo County Fire, with assistance from the Paso Robles Police Department and San Luis Ambulance Service.

Fire investigators determined the fire was smoking-related.
