SLO Food Bank receives livestock donations following California Mid-State Fair auction

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — The SLO Food Bank received more than 80 market animals and over $112,000 in dedicated contributions following the 2026 California Mid-State Fair Junior Livestock Auction.

More than 60 animals were donated by 20 community supporters who purchased livestock at the auction and chose to donate the animals to the food bank. The donations included goats, hogs and lambs raised by local 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors.

Community livestock donors included T&D Quarter Horses, Flying M Ranch, Delta Liquid Energy, Phillips Rafter A Ranch, Sinton Helicopters, JR Barto Ranch Co., Kimberly Babcock, Kasarjian & Company, Shining Cross Farms, Abi Engineering and Daou Vineyards, among others.

The food bank also received more than $112,000 in contributions to purchase additional livestock at the auction. The funding allowed the organization to purchase 20 animals, including 15 steers and five hogs.

Sinton & Sons and Central Valley Meats also donated processing services for the livestock, helping the food bank maximize the value of the donated animals and provide locally raised protein to residents experiencing food insecurity.

On their own, each gift is meaningful. Together, they create an extraordinary impact that provides thousands of meals for local families. It's a powerful reminder of what's possible when a community comes together to care for its neighbors.”

According to the food bank, the combined effort will provide thousands of meals for families throughout San Luis Obispo County.
