Free chipping days planned for Paso Robles residents in September

PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services is reminding residents in qualifying areas about free chipping days scheduled for Sept. 8 through 10.

The San Luis Obispo Fire Safe Council will provide free pickup of tree and brush trimmings during the three-day event. Collected vegetation will be chipped and hauled away at no cost to participating residents.

To participate, residents must be located within a Fire Hazard Severity Zone in Paso Robles, register online in advance at chipperday.com/slofsc and complete their reservation by Sept. 7.

Fire officials encourage residents to use the opportunity to remove overgrown trees, brush and other combustible vegetation around their homes. Vegetation management can help reduce wildfire fuels and make homes and properties more resilient to wildfire.

Sign boards have been placed throughout Paso Robles in recent weeks to remind residents about the program and encourage participation.

“Free chipping is a great opportunity for residents to take care of vegetation around their homes and reduce their wildfire risk,” said Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services Fire Captain Ross Porter. “We encourage everyone who qualifies to take advantage of this program and get their property prepared before the next wildfire threatens our community.”
