Electrical exhaust fan blamed for Paso Robles house fire

PASO ROBLES — Firefighters contained a residential structure fire to a bathroom Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 12, in the 1200 block of Dorothy Street.

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded at approximately 4:55 p.m. to reports of a fire at a single-story, single-family home. First-arriving firefighters found smoke and fire inside the bathroom and were able to contain the blaze to the room of origin, limiting its spread into the attic and living areas.

Firefighters also worked to minimize smoke and water damage to the remainder of the home and the occupants’ belongings. The residence was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded with three fire engines, a squad, two fire investigators, a training officer and a battalion chief. Under automatic aid agreements, Cal Fire/SLO County Fire provided an additional engine and battalion chief. A total of 19 firefighters responded, with additional assistance from the Paso Robles Police Department and San Luis Ambulance Service.

Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical exhaust fan.

Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services reminded residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
