Chabad of Paso Robles to host Shofar in the Park

PASO ROBLES — Chabad of Paso Robles will host “Shofar in the Park” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Centennial Park, offering members of the Jewish community an opportunity to participate in a central Rosh Hashanah tradition outside of synagogue services.

Rabbi Meir Gordon, director of Chabad of Paso Robles, will sound the shofar, a ram’s horn traditionally heard during Rosh Hashanah. The event will mark the Jewish New Year 5787.

“Bringing the shofar into a public place sends a powerful message of Jewish pride and confidence,” said Rabbi Gordon. “Shofar in the Park also makes the central mitzvah of Rosh Hashanah accessible to people who may not attend synagogue services, ensuring that every Jewish person in our community has the opportunity to participate.” 

Rosh Hashanah began at sundown Friday, Sept. 11, and continues through nightfall Sunday, Sept. 13. The holiday is a time for prayer, reflection and spiritual renewal and is traditionally observed through synagogue services, holiday meals and hearing the shofar.

The shofar will be sounded only Sunday this year because the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat.

"The shofar's distinctive blasts serve as both a spiritual wake-up call and a unifying sound connecting Jewish communities worldwide," added Rabbi Gordon. "This ancient ritual inspires personal reflection as people enter the new year with hopes for blessing and peace."

Chabad of Paso Robles is also hosting Rosh Hashanah evening services and a community dinner Friday, Sept. 11, followed by morning services Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13. Services are open to the Jewish community regardless of background, affiliation or membership.
