Sherwood Park pickleball complex to celebrate completion with ribbon cutting

PASO ROBLES — The City of Paso Robles will celebrate the completion of major improvements at Sherwood Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

City officials and members of the Paso Robles Pickleball Club will participate in a ceremonial “first dink,” followed by a pickleball demonstration showcasing the new courts and facilities.

The first phase of improvements includes seven new lighted pickleball courts, a picnic and barbecue area, shade structure, restrooms and an expanded parking lot.

The improvements were funded primarily through American Rescue Plan Act funds and development impact fees. Additional work is expected to begin next year and will include expanded field capacity through additional lighting and turf improvements.

The project followed extensive community input gathered through public meetings after approval of the Sherwood Park Master Plan. The Paso Robles City Council subsequently authorized the design and construction of the pickleball complex and field improvements. JJ Fisher Construction Inc. led the $3.4 million project.

“The enhancements at Sherwood Park reflect our city’s commitment to creating vibrant public spaces where residents and visitors of all ages can gather, play, and thrive,” said Paso Robles Community Services Director Angelica Fortin. “With pickleball’s popularity soaring, we’re excited to serve up new opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels while also enhancing the park with beautiful, upgraded amenities for everyone to enjoy.”

Sherwood Park is located on the east side of Paso Robles near Scott Street and Creston Road. The park also features Little League, softball and soccer fields, a dog park and a fantasy-themed playground with a castle, dragon and sword in the stone.
