Garage fire damages Paso Robles duplex on Fourth of July

PASO ROBLES — Firefighters contained a residential structure fire Saturday afternoon that damaged a duplex in the 600 block of Brookhill Drive.
Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to the call at approximately 2:45 p.m. on July 4. Crews arrived to find smoke and fire in a two-car garage with flames extending into the living area of the home.
Firefighters were able to stop the fire in the garage and limit its spread into the residence and the adjoining unit. Crews also worked to minimize smoke and water damage to the remainder of the home and the occupants' belongings.
According to fire officials, the residents were home when the fire started but were alerted by a neighbor. Both occupants and their dog safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
A total of 18 firefighters responded, including personnel from Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services, CAL FIRE/San Luis Obispo County Fire and Atascadero Fire under automatic aid agreements. The Paso Robles Police Department and San Luis Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials remind residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
