Free Chipping Days scheduled for eligible Paso Robles residents

PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services is encouraging eligible residents to participate in the San Luis Obispo Fire Safe Council's Free Chipping Days, scheduled for Sept. 7-9, to help reduce wildfire risk.

The program provides free disposal of tree limbs, brush and other vegetation generated through defensible space and vegetation management projects. City officials said scheduling the event after Labor Day gives residents extra time over the holiday weekend to clear their properties.

To participate, residents must live within Paso Robles' High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, register in advance and reserve an appointment by Sept. 8. Appointments are required.

Fire officials said creating defensible space around homes is one of the most effective ways to improve wildfire resilience, helping firefighters safely defend structures while reducing the potential for fire spread.
