CMSF opens volunteer applications for 'Friends of the Fair' program

PASO ROBLES — The California Mid-State Fair is now accepting applications for its “Friends of the Fair” volunteer program, offering community members an opportunity to help support one of the Central Coast’s largest annual events.

Established in 1995, the Friends of the Fair program brings together volunteers ranging in age from 5 to 95 who assist before, during, and after the fair. Volunteers support a variety of areas, including exhibit buildings, agriculture displays, guest services, decorations, and behind-the-scenes operations.

Fair officials said volunteers who complete at least 10 hours of service — including one pre-fair shift and one shift during the fair — will receive a 2026 season pass.

“Friends of the Fair started as a way for our family to earn season passes and volunteer together,” said 2025 Volunteer of the Year Luanne Kneeskern. “What keeps us coming back year after year is the sense of community, the memories we make, and the opportunity to serve Fairgoers.”

The 2026 fair, themed “Back to the ’80s,” is expected to feature a full lineup of concerts, exhibits, agriculture showcases, food vendors, and entertainment.

Volunteer opportunities are available in areas such as Information Booths, Home Arts and Crafts, Floriculture, Livestock, Visual Arts, Industrial Education, and more.
