PASO ROBLES — West Paso Robles has officially been designated as the city’s first Firewise USA® community, according to Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services.
The designation, made in partnership with the West Paso Robles Firewise Board, applies to all city properties west of Vine Street, from 1st to 24th streets. It recognizes the neighborhood’s efforts to reduce wildfire risk through mitigation, community engagement, and home hardening.
Firewise USA® is a national program administered by the National Fire Protection Association that supports communities in organizing wildfire preparedness efforts and strengthening collaboration with fire agencies.
Under California’s “Safer from Wildfires” regulations, insurance companies are required to recognize Firewise-designated communities, which may make residents eligible for insurance discounts.
Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services credited the Paso Robles Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for assisting with the application, along with Firewise Board members Dan Jones, Steve Eorio, Jill Corgill, Rick Goree, John Hamon, and Gina Grieb for their leadership.
Officials say the designation marks a key step in improving wildfire resilience on the city’s west side and expressed plans to expand Firewise participation to other neighborhoods.
