James Erwin Swingle “Jim”, 72, passed away May 6, 2026, in Clovis, California. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born on December 29, 1953, in Escanaba, Michigan, Jim was the only son of Roger and Mary Jane Swingle of Atascadero, California.
Jim had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Whether as a lifelong friend, a trusted co-worker at the Atascadero State Hospital, or “The Witchdoctor” to fellow HAM radio operators around the world, he brought warmth, laughter, and kindness wherever he went. But above all else, Jim was a devoted father whose greatest joy in life was his children and family.
He had a deep love for music, especially playing his guitar, and found happiness restoring classic cars and spending hours talking on his HAM radio. More than any hobby, though, Jim treasured the simple moments — a home filled with laughter, good conversation, music playing in the background, and the people he loved gathered close.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Swingle; a son, Christopher Perez; and his sister, Jean Boriack.
He leaves behind a family who will miss him deeply: his sisters, Marsha Griffin and Dena Swingle Sims; his daughters, Jill Hassaj, Kelly Swingle, and Shelby Swingle; his son, Tyler Swingle; and his beloved grandchildren, Sophie Hassaj and Graecie James Heimbecher.
Jim’s love, humor, strength, and steady presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, 4 pm-8 pm at The Old Spaghetti Factory, 1610 E. Shaw Ave., Fresno, CA.
