Traffic advisory: Creston Road corridor improvements begin July 13
By Staff Report · Tue Jul 14 2026
PASO ROBLES — Construction on the second phase of the Creston Road Corridor Improvements Project begins Monday, July 13, bringing traffic changes to one of Paso Robles' busiest roadways.
The work will take place along Creston Road from Niblick Road to just past Orchard Drive and includes roadway rehabilitation and paving, underground utility upgrades, new sidewalks and ADA improvements, enhanced bicycle lanes, and construction of a new roundabout at Rolling Hills Road.
To speed construction of the roundabout, Rolling Hills Road will be closed to through traffic between Creston Road and Golden Hill Road through Fall 2028. Access from Golden Hill Road will remain available for residents and Children's Academy Montessori.
The City is completing the project in multiple phases to reduce impacts on motorists. Creston Road is expected to remain open in both directions throughout construction, although drivers should expect temporary lane closures, traffic shifts, and delays.
The project includes:
Phase A (Roundabout Area): July 13, through Fall 2028. Full closure of Rolling Hills Road between Creston Road and Golden Hill Road, along with temporary lane closures on Creston Road between Melody Drive and Orchard Drive. A detour will direct traffic via Golden Hill Road and Union Road.
Phase B (Melody Drive to Niblick Road): July 13, through Fall 2027. Temporary lane closures and traffic adjustments along Creston Road between Melody Drive and Niblick Road. Construction will generally occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with adjusted work hours during school commute times.
Vinedo Development Turn Lane Improvements: Beginning July 15 and continuing through December work funded by the Vinedo development will improve turn lanes at the Creston Road and Niblick Road intersection, with temporary lane closures during weekday work hours.
The approximately $17.8 million project is funded through a combination of state and local sources, including a $3 million allocation secured by State Sen. John Laird, along with revenues from the voter-approved J-20 and Measure I-24 sales tax measures.
City officials encourage motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted traffic control signs while construction is underway.
