SLO County Elections shares key reminders ahead of Election Day

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — With two weeks remaining until Election Day, SLO County voters are already turning out in strong numbers for the Statewide Special Election. According to Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano, more than 20 percent of mail ballots sent on October 3 have already been returned and processed, with thousands more arriving daily.

Election officials are reminding voters not to delay mailing their ballots. Because all county residents are more than 50 miles from the nearest postal hub in Goleta, ballots mailed less than a week before Election Day may not be postmarked in time. Voters are encouraged to mail ballots early, take them directly inside a post office to be hand-cancelled, or use an official ballot drop box.

“If you want your vote included in Election Night totals, be sure your ballot reaches us before Election Day,” said Cano. Ballots received between November 4 and November 11, and postmarked by November 4, will still be counted during the official canvass.

This election features 45 polling locations, fewer than previous elections. Voters should confirm their assigned polling place by checking their ballot stub or visiting sos.ca.gov/elections/polling-place. Bringing a mail ballot to exchange at the polls will also help speed up the voting process.

Voters who haven’t yet registered can still participate through conditional voter registration, available at the SLO Elections Office, the Atascadero satellite office (opening Oct. 27), and all polling places on Election Day.

The Elections Office is also enhancing transparency by sharing voter return statistics throughout the election cycle. Updated data and election details can be found at slovote.com/november2025
