SabesWings raises over $1 million at 5th annual ‘Strike Out’ Medical Financial Toxicity event

PASO ROBLES — SabesWings, the nonprofit organization founded by World Series MVP Bret Saberhagen and his wife Kandace Saberhagen, raised more than $1 million during its 5th Annual “Strike Out” Medical Financial Toxicity (MFT) event held October 4–5 in Paso Robles. The two-day fundraiser supports Central Coast cancer patients struggling with medical and household expenses during treatment.

This year’s event — themed “Casino Royal” — marked the 40th anniversary of Saberhagen’s 1985 World Series MVP season. Guests enjoyed casino-style games, fine wine, gourmet dining, live entertainment, and a spirited charity golf tournament. The weekend also featured a star-studded lineup of athletes and celebrities, including Mike Timlin, Chili Davis, Sean Berry, Mark Rypien, Chef Aaron May, Kim Alexis, and David Dravecky, among others.

Emceed for the fourth year by Jonathan Coachman, the event celebrated generosity, resilience, and the community’s dedication to helping those affected by cancer.

SabesWings continues to make a major impact through its mission to “strike out” the financial toxicity that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis. Since its inception, the organization has raised millions to directly assist patients across the nation.

The Saberhagens expressed gratitude to this year’s national and local MVP sponsors, including Republic National Distributing Company and Adams Cable Equipment, as well as the organization’s Celebrity Advisory Board, whose support helps make the event a success year after year.
