Position
Reporting to the Education Program Manager, the Education Program Coordinator (EPC) works within RISE’s Prevention Education Department team. The EPC engages and recruits adult community members in mobilization efforts towards the primary prevention of sexual assault (SA) and intimate partner violence (IPV) through the utilization of RISE’s primary prevention program Close to Home (C2H). In addition the EPC supports in coordination, development, and implementation of school-based and community education curricula. This implementation includes the facilitation of community presentations with youth and adults as well as agency partners to raise awareness of SA and IPV, intersecting issues, tools to prevent incidence of SA/IPV, and insight on how to appropriately support survivors of SA/IPV in their lives and/or fields of service.
Responsibilities
Awareness & Prevention Education
- Work in collaboration with the education team to develop, implement, and update community recruitment efforts and retention plans for youth organizing team leaders.
- Train and support youth organizing team leaders in the implementation of C2H.
- Facilitate regular youth and intergenerational organizing team meetings to plan and implement C2H.
- Establish, build, and maintain partnerships with community agencies, businesses, local organizations and individual community leaders to support RISE’s prevention efforts.
- Coordinate and facilitate community or organizational presentations on SA, IPV and healthy relationships.
- Ensure education materials are innovative, up-to-date, and at the forefront of the gender based violence prevention movement.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate program data including the ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of primary prevention programming.
- Attend and participate in required conferences, trainings, and networking calls.
- Follow all mandated reporting policies and procedures.
- Provide crisis counseling during office hours in person and over the phone.
- Provide crisis intervention services during educational presentations, group facilitation, and events as needed.
- Accompany survivors to medical exams, court and law enforcement interviews as needed.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, SA and IPV, social systems, intersectional issues, active listening skills, and basic crisis intervention and crisis counseling techniques.
- Experience working with and organizing youth.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Public speaking abilities in small and large group settings.
- A positive attitude and ability to work with professionals and community members from all walks of life.
- Ability to work in a team environment and foster collaborative working relationships with agency partners and diverse groups of people.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with individuals and groups in an accessible way to meet their level of understanding.
- Passion, idealism, integrity, mission-driven, and self-directed.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed as well as travel out of the area for training.
- Bilingual English/Spanish (highly preferred, but not required).
- All RISE staff and volunteers must complete a live-scan (paid for by the agency).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation.
- All RISE staff and volunteers must complete the 60-hr California State Certified Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Crisis Counselor Training (provided as on-the-job training).
