PRJUSD launches early college program with Cuesta College

PASO ROBLES — The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is expanding opportunities for students to earn college credit while still in high school through a new Early College program launching in the fall.

Developed in partnership with Cuesta College, the program will provide students at Paso Robles High School and Independence High School with a structured pathway to complete college coursework while fulfilling high school graduation requirements.

Unlike traditional dual-enrollment offerings, the Early College model provides students with a clear course sequence designed to maximize college credits earned before graduation. With careful planning, students may complete up to two years of college coursework, potentially accelerating progress toward a certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree.

"Early College creates a clear pathway for students to accelerate their educational goals allowing them to graduate from high school with an associate degree," said PRJUSD Superintendent, Jennifer Loftus. "By expanding access to college coursework we're opening doors to future opportunities while reducing both the time and cost required to earn a college degree."

Students enrolled in the program will take Cuesta College courses while receiving dedicated support during the school day to help them stay on track academically. They may also have the opportunity to enroll in a third dual-enrollment course, expanding beyond the district’s previous two-course limit.

A limited number of spaces remain available for the 2026-27 school year. Families interested in learning more are encouraged to contact their school counselor.
