PASO ROBLES — Scouting America Troops 60 and 1602 in Paso Robles are off to a strong start in the 2025–26 year, with a full slate of camping trips, service projects and community fundraising efforts already underway.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Paso Robles, the troops meet weekly during the school year at the Scout Hut on Oak Street. Troop 60 (boys, grades 5–12) meets Monday evenings, while Troop 1602 (girls, grades 5–12) meets Tuesdays. Meetings focus on rank advancement, life skills, games and planning future outings.
Recent highlights include trips to the Sierra caverns, backpacking in the Santa Lucia Mountains, hiking in Yosemite and camping at Carrizo Plains and Shaver Lake. In December, 38 Scouts and family members traveled to Yosemite for hikes to Upper Yosemite Falls, Mirror Lake and the Valley Floor. Scouts also participated in the annual Klondike Derby at Camp Chawanakee, competing in snow challenges following a major winter storm.
Upcoming activities include a March trip to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, the Fort Cuesta Camporee in April, white-water rafting on the Kern River in May and summer camp at Camp Fiesta Island in San Diego in June.
To support these programs, the troops continue fundraising efforts, including a CRV Recycling Program and an upcoming Tri-Tip BBQ fundraiser in May. Community members and local businesses can participate or learn more by contacting the troops directly.
