PASO ROBLES — The Paso Robles Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint on Friday, Feb. 13, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.
Checkpoint locations are selected based on data identifying areas with a history of impaired driving-related crashes. The goal of the operation is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roadway.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Commander Boyett said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
The Paso Robles Police Department reminds the public that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect a person’s ability to drive safely. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
Drivers arrested for a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to a suspended driver’s license.
