Paso Robles launches free ‘Paso Play in the Garden’ family program

PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles Recreation has partnered with community garden volunteers to launch Paso Play in the Garden, a new free workshop series designed to help children and families explore nature through hands-on activities at Uptown Family Park Garden.

The inaugural event, Butterflies & Blooms, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 27, at Uptown Family Park Garden, 641 36th St. Participants will create seed bombs using pollinator-friendly wildflower seeds, make butterfly-themed crafts, explore the garden to identify butterfly host and feeding plants, and take part in a butterfly release.

The workshops are free, open to young gardeners and their caregivers, and do not require registration.

The series will continue every other month on the fourth Saturday through the end of the year. Upcoming programs include Spots & Sprouts on Aug. 22, focusing on ladybugs, and Batty About Bats on Oct. 24, highlighting the role bats play as nighttime pollinators.

“We’re excited to be growing a new garden program for children and their families to enjoy together,” said Recreation Coordinator Heather Stephenson. “Paso Play in the Garden is a wonderful opportunity for families to play, learn, and grow together at Uptown Family  Park Garden. We hope families will come and join the fun.”

The program is part of the city’s new Paso Play on Wheels mobile recreation initiative, which brings free recreational activities into neighborhoods and community gathering spaces throughout Paso Robles.
