Community invited to honor road traffic victims at 2nd annual World Day of Remembrance

PASO ROBLES — The San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Safe America Movement’s PASOSafe initiative will host the 2nd Annual San Luis Obispo County World Day of Remembrance on Sunday, Nov. 16, at Centennial Park’s Picnic Area, 600 Nickerson Drive, Paso Robles. The free community event includes a Reception from 1 to 1:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The event honors those who have lost their lives or been injured in road traffic collisions, offering support to affected families and raising awareness about road safety. The memorial will include personal tributes, agency updates, grief support, visual displays, a bell ringing, and a dove release.

First established in 1993 by the UK-based organization RoadPeace, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is now observed worldwide. Locally, the event is supported by the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG), which will share updates on the 2025 Regional Road Safety Action Plan — part of a broader effort to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2050.

Between 2019 and 2024, SLO County recorded 159 fatalities and 934 serious injuries from traffic incidents.
