City launches Riverside Avenue Pedestrian Improvement Project ahead of summer events

PASO ROBLES — The City of Paso Robles Public Works Department has announced the start of the Riverside Avenue Pedestrian Improvements Project, aimed at upgrading curb ramps and constructing missing sidewalks between 17th and 24th streets.

City officials said the project is part of a council-approved list of priority street improvements funded through supplemental sales tax revenue and a Community Development Block Grant totaling approximately $330,200, with additional support from Measures J-20 and I-24.

Riverside Avenue, which carries a pavement condition index of 62 and is classified in “fair” condition, serves as a key pedestrian route—especially during the annual California Mid-State Fair—when foot traffic to and from the fairgrounds increases significantly.

Officials said the upgrades are intended to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility while also supporting year-round mobility and easing access during major community events. Work will be completed in phases to minimize disruption, with curb ramp and sidewalk improvements scheduled before the Mid-State Fair and roadway resurfacing planned afterward.

Construction by Cen-Cal Construction is set to begin the week of June 1, pause July 10 ahead of the fair, and resume in August.
