SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — A San Luis Obispo man was taken into custody Friday morning after a nearly two-hour standoff with law enforcement at a residence on Los Osos Valley Road.
According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, members of the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail (SED) served a search warrant at approximately 5 a.m. on June 5 in the 4700 block of Los Osos Valley Road. The warrant targeted 43-year-old Benjamin Lian Reynoso, who was wanted on a felony arrest warrant.
Authorities said Reynoso was wanted on charges of felony vandalism, violating a domestic violence restraining order, and obstruction of justice, all stemming from an incident that occurred the previous week. Investigators also reported that Reynoso had previously made threats against law enforcement and area residents.
When deputies arrived, Reynoso allegedly refused repeated commands to exit the residence. Officials said no other individuals were inside the home. Members of the Sheriff's Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to communicate with Reynoso, but he reportedly refused to cooperate and continued making threats toward deputies.
After several tactics, including the use of chemical agents, were employed, Reynoso exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident at approximately 7 a.m.
During a subsequent search of the home, detectives discovered several homemade incendiary devices, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The operation also involved the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team, which provided a specialized vehicle used during the apprehension.
Reynoso was arrested and booked into custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
