County office issues an immediate correction about Today Show claims

The County of San Luis Obispo affirms that its phased reopening, or loosening of current restrictions, is predicated on the California Governor returning local control to counties.

This clarification is needed after NBC’s Today Show aired a story this morning that spotlighted San Luis Obispo County and incorrectly reported that the California county plans to reopen on May 1. This is false.

“We understand how this misinformation could confuse and frustrate our community,” said County Board of Supervisors Chair and District 4 Supervisor Lynn Compton. “We continue to actively reach out to our community to ensure they are fully informed with accurate and timely information, which includes the progress on the County’s phased reopening plan currently in its final stages of development.”

County officials state that they will be ready to implement the plan when the Governor returns authority back to the counties.
