The Optimist Club of Paso Robles held its 4th Annual Winemaker’s Bowling Classic on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Paso Robles Bowl. Over 48 bowling enthusiasts from several local wineries attempted to knock down strikes or spares and vie for the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place trophies and other prizes.

This was the fourth annual event sponsored by the Optimist Club of Paso Robles. The tournament is dedicated to the local wine industry as a way of thanking them for their assistance in supporting the youth of our community. The bowling tournament was also held as a fundraiser for the Optimist Club of Paso Robles to support local High School Scholarships and other youth activities. The winery teams that competed were given a chance to win door prizes and gift baskets by way of bowling challenges during the tournament, raffle drawings and other ticket drawings.

Paso Robles Optimist Club Past President, Chuck Sawyer, serves as chairman for the tournament and is very enthusiastic about this annual event. “The Optimist Club is extremely grateful for the support our local wineries and businesses have given us to help the youth of our community. The wineries have supported our Annual Chinese Auction for years and we wanted to find a way to thank the wine industry for their donations and support by giving them something back in return. A bowling tournament was something everyone can enjoy and provides a friendly competition no matter what skill level you might have” Sawyer said.

During the evening, each team bowled a total of 3 games, and though the competition was close, the winning team taking home the 1st Place trophy was the team from Peachy Canyon Winery. The Peachy Canyon Winery team knocked down a total of 1599 pins.  Second place went to Justin Winery with 1596 pins and third place went to the team from Calcareous Winery with 1541 pins.  Highest individual effort went to John Stensrud with a total of 527 pins. At the conclusion of the tournament, the lowest and highest scoring teams were given awards for their efforts, as well as the lowest and highest individual scores.
