William “Bill” Oscar Chapin Jr, 83 of Paso Robles California, passed away on Monday June 5, 2017. He was born in Jonestown, Pennsylvania to William and Elizabeth.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, aboard the USS Lipan (ATF-85) and was part of the H Bomb testing, known as Operation Ivy in 1952 at Enewetak Atoll Marshall Islands.
He lived most of his life in California, where he met his beloved Susan T, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death, were his parents, two brothers A.R. (Bud) and Gerdon (chip) and sister Atta Marie.
Bill enjoyed the over 40 years working as an automotive mechanic, and owner operator of Chapin's Alignment Service in Whittier. In his spare time enjoyed racing cars and motorcycles, camping, waterskiing, welding and home improvements. He never met a stranger.
Susan and Bill designed and built their dream home in Paso Robles over 40 years ago, where he lived the remainder of his life. Bill was proud of his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by daughters, Laurie Engstrom and husband Wally, Pam Chapin and husband Vic, son Dean Chapin and wife Stephanie. He is also survived by grandchildren Kelly Marquez and husband Rob of Lancaster, and Brittney, Jeffrey and Alison Chapin of Lake Havasu Arizona. Great grandchildren Robert and Khloe Marquez.
Bill is also survived by his Pennsylvania family, sister Sunny Ruth Laubauh, sister-in-law Esther Chapin, nieces Mary Jane Hill and Diane Chapin and nephew Rick Chapin and their families.
He will be missed by his family and friends. His final resting place will be Jonestown, Pennsylvania.
