TEMPLETON — Early indications are that Templeton voters approved a special property tax — Measure A — to fund the Templeton Fire Department.
A vote-by-mail special election was held Monday, Aug. 26 and unofficial election results were posted by the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office Tuesday evening.
According to the initial results, 1,551 voted yes and 440 voted no on the measure. Ballots are expected to be counted over the coming weeks.
Measure A asked voters if they were willing to pay an extra $180 per property parcel, which is $15 per month to help fund TFD. It’s expected that if the measure passes it will generate $486,000 per year for the department and make it so TFD could provide services around the clock, seven days a week. The current fund only allows for the station to be staffed for part of the day.
