Three fatally wounded in Labor Day collision on Lake Nacimiento Rd.

LAKE NACIMIENTO — California Highway Patrol reported that there was a fatal head-on collision involving two vehicles on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.

At approximately 2:09 p.m., Jeffrey A. McNernely, 51, of Paso Robles was driving his 2015 Dodge Dart, eastbound on Lake Nacimiento Lake Drive east of San Marcos Road at a high rate of speed, and possibly under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, John Kudla, 58, of Paso Robles, was driving his 2001 Ford F-150 westbound approaching McNernely's Dodge, when the Dodge passed over the solid double yellow lines to pass another eastbound vehicle. McNerenely's dodge collided head-on with Kudla's Ford F-150 in the westbound lane.

Both came to rest on the north shoulder of the westbound lane a short distance later.

The right passenger of the Ford F-150, Denise A. Kudla, 59, of Paso Robles was provided CPR at the scene of the accident and transported via ambulance to a local trauma center but succumbed to her injuries. John Kudla sustained minor injuries, lacerations and cuts and self-transported for treatment.

McNernely and his passenger, Bobbi Jo Bainconnor, 45, of Paso Robles sustained fatal injuries. McNernely was not wearing his seatbelt.

The crash is under investigation.
