SANTA MARIA — The Bearcats Boys Tennis Team won both games they played this week and only surrendered four sets overall. On Tuesday, the Bearcats rolled to a victory over Pioneer Valley winning 17-1. The next day the Bearcats faced Orcutt Academy and kept on rolling, winning the match 15-3. The Bearcats Tennis Team is off to a fast start this season with a record of 15-5, and are proving that they are one of the top teams in the PAC-8.
Brysan Pesenti and Evan Proulx led the Bearcats this week. The two team leaders both seem to be getting into rhythm at the right time. Proulx dominated the competition the entire week. On Tuesday, Proulx won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. Proulx didn’t lose a single set point against Orcutt Academy, winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
Pesenti had an equally impressive week, winning both matches in straight sets. Pioneer Valley only scored three points total versus Paso Robles’ top two players, with only one coming against Pesenti. He won his match against the Warriors 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. Then on Wednesday, Pesenti came out against Orcutt Academy and continued to play well — at no point did it seem like the match was in question.
The entire Bearcat doubles team also cruised to victory over both the Warriors and the Spartans. The team of Albert Lara and Cristian Anaya also won in straight sets. Anaya was pulled up to the varsity team just a couple weeks ago and continues to impress.
The team of Ryan Stronks and CJ Wilson continued the straight sets trend winning comfortably, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0. The Bearcats will play again on Tuesday when they take on Atascadero High School in Atascadero.
