Symphony of Vines brings harpist Yom Litaker to Pear Valley

Symphony of the Vines is presenting Harp Virtuoso on Sunday, March 4, at Pear Valley Estate Wine in Paso Robles. Catherine Yom Litaker, harpist, will be accompanied by  Juan Antonio Rivera, flute, and Hilary Clark, cello during the 4 p.m. concert.

“The harp, with 47 strings, is unique among instruments. Like the piano, it is capable of playing melody and harmony at the same time,” said Greg Magie, Music Director. “Catherine Yom Litaker is a rising star in the music world, and we are delighted to present this concert.”

Litaker has performed on stages across the globe including Europe, North and South America, and Asia. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, and Quad City Symphony.

She started on the piano at the age of 4, but longed to play the instrument her mother was learning.

“After about a month of having a harp in the house, I was begging to plunge in and take lessons myself,” said Litaker. “I’ve been playing ever since.”

All of the music in the concert has been chosen by Litaker and includes classics and many of her favorites.

“The sound world of the harp can be so special. It can be dark and mysterious, airy and magical and everything in between,” she explained. “I love the range of sound and magnitude of effects that I can get on the harp. This concert is small and intimate enabling the harp to be beautifully present.”

The harpist is looking forward to collaborating with the other musicians.

“Hilary Clark is an amazing cellist and if you haven’t heard her yet, you’re going to love her sound,” she said. “And Juan Rivera is an incredibly dynamic flutist. We are playing a few new works that should be extra fun.”

The concert is sponsored by Karen Willer and Steve Peterson, Joe and Jill Farriss, and Jim and Carolyn Brescia.

Harp Virtuoso featuring Catherine Yom Litaker is Sunday, March 3, at 4 p.m., at Pear Valley Estate Wine, 4900 Union Rd., Paso Robles. Tickets are $15 to $30, and children K-12 are free with a paid adult. Tickets are available at the door or online at
