Students participate in Optimist Club speech contest


Four high school students placed in the club level of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest Wednesday evening after presenting their speeches on the topic: “Where are My Roots in Optimism” at the Paso Robles Elks Club. Winners will proceed to the Zone Level and move on to the World Championships. First Place was Lia Freed-Doerr (far left) of Templeton High School, second Place was Maria Vargas Roman (second from left) of Paso Robles High School, third Place went to Jesus Aron Nevarez (third from left) of Paso Robles High School, and fourth place was awarded to Atante Walker (far right) of Paso Robles High School. Judging the contest were Steve Martin, Mayor of Paso Robles, Vicki Janssen, Legislative Assistant to Supervisor John Peschong, and Reporter Beth Giuffre of the Paso Robles Press.
