Standout students honored at award and scholarship ceremonies

TEMPLETON — Sofia Talarico took home a few awards and scholarships this May. The graduating Templeton Highschool (THS) senior received the prestigious “Eagle of the Year” award, as well as the Top Scholar Cumulative Award, STEM Award, Spanish Award, SAT Award, Life Science Award, CSF Award and the ACT Award. She also received three scholarships presented on scholarship night: The Monday Club Conservancy Fine Arts Award Scholarship, Vocal Arts SLO Scholarship and THS Drama Boosters Scholarship. Talarico will be attending UC Irvine, majoring in Musical Theater and Biology.
The Shelby Sudbrink Memorial Scholarship, a fund created to honor of Shelby Sudbrink, a THS student and basketball player who was killed in a car crash in January of 2017, was awarded to Templeton graduating senior Julia Aurignac. Aurignac also was awarded as THS Female Athlete of the Year. On awards night this May, she also received the Top Scholar Cumulative Award, CSF Award and Templeton Athletic Boosters Scholarship. Aurignac will attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas to study Nursing.  
After our own heart, THS senior Nina Spinello won this year’s Journalism Award. This year she was editor-in-chief of the THS school newspaper “The Aerie.” Spinello will be attending Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y. as a Liberal Arts major.
