Shelly LeJeal of Atascadero passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family and her husband of 48 years, John W. LeJeal.
Shelly was born in Walker, Texas on April 25, 1937. Living primarily in Austin and working as a psychiatric nurse, she raised five children before relocating to California in 1970. Upon moving to Atascadero, Shelly became a Welcome Wagon hostess which enabled her to meet many people and truly settle into her new home. Shelly then became a Realtor and continued her successful career for more than three decades.
With a heart for those less fortunate and seeing a need in the community, Shelly helped to found The Loaves and Fishes. This food pantry, which began in the basement of St. Williams Church over 30 years ago, is now a thriving non-profit organization that continues to serve the community of Atascadero to this day; a legacy that her family is very proud of.
Shelly loved to write and was an avid reader. She enjoyed collecting beautiful things and decorating her home.
She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spending time with them was her complete pride and joy.
She is survived by her husband John, her five children; Don Goodwin, his wife Patricia and his children Devon and Leslie; Curtis Goodwin, his wife Carolyn and his son Adam; Robert and his daughter Megan; Naomi Toevs, her husband Tim and their sons Joshua and Jared; and Judith Enger and her children Chelsea and Ty. She is also survived by two brothers; Walter Helton and his wife Ingred, and Calvin Helton and his wife Sharon.
Shelly was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
