PASO ROBLES — On March 19, the Paso Robles Optimist Club honored Victor Diaz and his Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Pack 100. Diaz and volunteer leaders are helping Hispanic kids from ages 5 to 18 through scouting classes. Twice a month they meet at the Sports Club on the east end of Paso Robles to learn the Boy Scout way of life. They also are able to take classes for bodybuilding, gym activities and swimming in a pool. They learn to swim safely and get exercise.
The Paso Robles Optimist Club has sponsored the Cubs and older Boy Scouts for five years. These scouts learn many things, and teamwork is emphasized. They also work on fundraising projects which help with the cost of field trips and other fun activities. Many of these boys stay with scouting until they are adults. The Paso Optimists say that they are very proud of Diaz and his scout troops. The youths help with the Optimist Fishing Derby, the Chinese Auction fundraiser, the Toy Bank, the Spelling Bee in City Park, and Arte of De Tiza each year.
