Robert M. Sparling was born to parents Francis Carleton and Bessie Ellen Sparling, Aug. 29, 1930, and passed away Nov, 14. 2017.
After attending school from kindergarten through junior college in Hollister, he finished at U.C. Davis where he met his wife of 62 years, Wilma Harper Sparling.
Most of Robert’s working career was with the Federal USDA Animal Health Division, starting as a serologist with a program to eradicate brucellosis in California, and going on to programs to prevent and control other animal diseases.
Retirement years have included travel to many U.S. states and five European countries, plus a train trip across Canada. He has enjoyed volunteer work such as 18 years with the Atascadero Police Department, Gideons, and the Gospel Chapel.
Survivors include three children: Brien Robert Sparling (Trish) of Watsonville, Shan Sparling (Jeff Klotz) of Bellingham, Wash., and Patty Morrison (Dennis) of Atascadero. Five grandchildren: Randall Sparling (Rachel) of Saginaw, Mich., Ben Sparling of Watsonville, John Sparling of Watsonville, Joshua Morrison of Atascadero, Pearl Morrison of Atascadero, and one great-granddaughter Rosie Sparling of Saginaw, Mich.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Gospel Chapel on the corner of Atascadero Avenue and Curbaril in Atascadero.
