NORTH COUNTY —  Bethany and Abigail Reinstedt were guests of the Exchange Club of North San Luis Obispo County on June 11, and presented their short film, “The Chosen.”
High school students, Bethany, and Abigail Reinstedt, residents of Bradley, spent their Christmas vacation producing their film at the end of 2018, the start of 2019 as their final for their home school Film Production class.
They entered it into the Christian Youth Film Festival in Bakersfield in March 2019, where they won Best Application of Scripture, second place Best Picture, and Abigail Reinstedt also won Best Actress. The criteria for the festival was that films be 10 minutes or less — not including credits, and based on Biblical themes, and that all significant work be done by youth 18 or younger, excluding supporting actors.
The Reinstedts’ script was inspired by Michael Martin Murphy’s song “The Kill Pen” which he graciously gave them permission to use. This short film, which they wrote, directed, did all camera work for, edited, recorded wild takes and foley, color corrected, and more, took them four weeks from the first concept to completion.
