PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles High School will host two girls’ volleyball camps starting next week. There are two different sessions, each one running for two days. Each day of camp begins at 9 a.m. and will end at approximately 11 a.m.
The first session will run Monday and Tuesday, and the second session will run on Wednesday and Thursday. Each girl that attends should bring shoes for the court, a water bottle and kneepads. The camp is designed for girl’s grades four through eight, and there is something for girls of every skill level.
The camp will focus on the fundamentals of volleyball such as passing, setting, hitting/attacking, blocking, individual defense, team defense and serving. This camp is also an opportunity for local volleyball players to meet the new Head Volleyball Coach for the Bearcats, Samantha Woolf. This camp is different from general skills camps because the high school volleyball players that are currently on the high school team will be the ones coaching the younger girls.
“I know that sometimes it can be intimidating for younger girls to approach the older varsity girls and I don’t want it to be like that,” Woolf said for her reasons for having her athletes teach the camp. Woolf also noted that because kids can begin picking up sports in fourth grade, she would like to continue to have camps like this throughout the year so that younger athletes can learn the right fundamentals and learn to play in the system that they will eventually play in at the high school.
The cost for the camp will be $55 per session, and that will include volleyball, a camp T-shirt and hours of fun with the girls they will be watching play at the high school level. The T-shirts that the girls acquire from the camp are also good for free admission at the Paso Robles High School volleyball games next year. For more information or sign-up sheets, you can check the PRHS Girls’ Volleyball Facebook page and make checks payable to: Bearcat Academy Girls Volleyball.
The Paso Robles High School parking lot is currently closed due to renovations, the registration desk for the camp will be located across the street in the district office parking lot.
