PASO ROBLES — Paso Robles resident Paul Laviel Woodward, 32, was arrested for threatening and resisting an executive officer, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance, violating a protective/stay away order and for a probation violation.
On March 28 Woodward’s family notified police that he was acting strangely and “out of control,” according to Paso Robles Police Police Chief Ty Lewis.
“Our officers contacted him at a residence at 3126 Spring Street knowing that he also had a felony arrest warrant for a violation of Penal Code 69 (assaulting a police officer),” Lewis said.
When police made contact with Woodward he threw hot coffee at one officer and attempted to hit another while holding a corkscrew in his hand.
“Luckily, the coffee wasn’t too hot and the officers were able to easily disarm Mr. Woodward without anyone sustaining injury,” said Lewis.
Woodward was booked into County Jail on March 29 and his bail was set at $50,000.
