Paso High Theatre Company will be performing an adaptation of the classic Disney film, “The Jungle Book,” a musical adventure that follows the life of the human boy who grows up with the animals of the jungle, on March 2 and 3 at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Paso Robles High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 and the performance is open to the public.
PRHS drama students performed “The Jungle Book Kids” for more than 1,800 PRJUSD students recently as a field trip. The children’s musical, with singing and dancing to all the favorite jazzy songs from the original “Jungle Book,” has been well-received according to PRJUSD VAPA Department Chair Marcy Goodnow, who directs the performance.
The host of colorful characters include: McKenzie Short as Bagheera, Brooke Bigelow as Baloo. Naomi Phillips as Mowgli, Madecyn Penn as Shere Khan, Rebecca Slason as Coconut Tree/Shanti and Cassidy LeClair as Kaa.
“‘The Jungle Book Kids’ is not only a great introduction to musical theater for my students, but it is only 35 minutes, so it is a great introduction for children to see their first production, no matter what their age!” Goodnow said. “The show is action packed and children are invested from the moment the music starts.”
Goodnow, who also advises for LINK CREW and the Equality Club, has been at PRHS for eight years now, and said she loves her job and the students at the school.
“The students are so creative and caring. They care about the art we create and the way they treat each other during the process,” she said. “I also have major support from our community, families school board, administration and students.”
The play was choreographed by PRHS student Cassidy LeClair, with vocal direction by Aimee Ware.
Tickets are available at www.PRHSdrama.com or at the door. PRHS Performing Arts Center is located at 801 Niblick Road in Paso Robles.
