Oral Kay Harmon, 84, passed away Jan. 30 at home. He was born July 13, 1934, in Sherman, Okla. His family moved to Creston in 1936. Kay graduated from Paso Robles High School, Class of 1953.
During his lifetime he worked several jobs, even selling newspapers to the soldiers at Camp Roberts before attending classes. Following graduation, he worked at a paper mill job for Weyhauser in Washington for 10 years.
Eventually, he returned to Atascadero to help his father, Milt, run Milt’s Cocktail Lounge which he ran for many years. He was a charter member of the Atascadero Trail Riders and always enjoyed his friends and his horseback activities. He was also a member of the Paso Robles trail Riders organization. His other passion was antique automobiles. Over the years he owned several and showed them locally. Kay was also a long-time member of the Atascadero Elks and enjoyed many of the camp outings and other activities.
Kay is survived by his daughter, Nichole Phillips (JR) their three children, Kyleigh, Caleb and Chase of Taft, Calif., his sister, Judy Weatherwax (Bill) and their son Todd of Paso Robles, and his sister Peggy of Sutherlin, Ore. He also leaves his significant other of 37 years, R Janet Robinson of Templeton.
A private family service shall be held at the gravesite in Templeton. A memorial celebration shall be planned for later in the year.
