City Library and Historical Society partner to provide greater access to historical material

PASO ROBLES —  The Paso Robles City Library through a partnership with the Paso Robles Area Historical Society is able to provide researchers access to a greater amount of local history material. The Library is also offering a new state-of-the-art microfilm/microfiche reader that will enable people to browse, scan, print and save the material in several formats.
Shauna Davis, president of PRAHS, stated, “The El Paso de Robles Area Historical Society is very excited about partnering with the Paso Robles City Library. Not only will both of our microfilm collections be available for viewing by the community, but now users will have use of equipment that offers options to share information, further preserving our local history.”
Paso Robles native, and Library volunteer, Kathy Brown made possible the purchase of the new equipment through her generous donation to the Paso Robles Library Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the library and its mission. When asked why she chose to help purchase the equipment, Brown explained that she was a history major, that she loved the old library and that she loves the new one. Plus, she added, “You needed it.”
City Librarian Angelica Fortin stated, “As we continue to move into the technological future, with support from our community, it is important to reflect upon our past. With the addition of this reader, the Library’s partnership with the Historical Society not only fosters the community’s ties to its rich history. It is fitting the Historical Society is housed in the place where our history began.”
The Paso Robles Library Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Library’s commitment to excellence in library service. Over the years, through contributions large and small, the Foundation has made possible the creation of new collections, expansion of many of your favorite library programs and activities, the modernization of furnishings and technology throughout the Library, and now the addition of the new microfilm/microfiche reader.
The Paso Robles City Library is located at 1000 Spring St. and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to  8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to  5 p.m. For more information on library programs and events, call 805-237-3870 or visit www.prcity.com/library.
