Missing SLO man found deceased in Pozo OHV

Driver flips vehicle at Stair Step Summit Trail

POZO — On Monday, April 16, Wolfgang Wyatt Forbes, 23 of San Luis Obispo, was reported missing by his father to San Luis Obispo Police Department. Two off-duty firefighters who were riding their motorcycles at the popular Stair Step Summit Trail at the Pozo OHV area found a 1986 Suzuki Samurai on Tuesday, April 17.
“They saw the vehicle rolled over and thought he was just sitting there at first,” said Officer Seebart of the California Highway Patrol.
In the vehicle, the two men found Forbes who was already deceased. They had to ride to a different area to get within range of a cell phone signal and contacted the CHP just after 11 a.m.
Due to the extremely rugged terrain, CHP Helicopter H70 was utilized to transport Cal Fire and CHP personnel to the collision scene for extrication.
For unknown reasons, Forbes failed to negotiate a steep descent on a dirt and rock trail and rolled off the trail and onto the roof. Forbes was partially ejected and suffered fatal injuries.
A dog owned by Forbes survived the collision. Authorities are still not sure when the accident took place.
CHP H70 personnel transported Forbes’ body out of the Off-Highway Vehicle area.
