Mid-State Fair announces home winemaking competition winners

PASO ROBLES — The California Mid-State Fair announced the winners of its Home Winemaking Competition Monday.

“We received awesome feedback during the seminar and awards presentation," noted Mike Jones, the Home Winemaking coordinator. "It was great to hear how much the exhibitors appreciated those additions. There was a record 23 gold medals awarded this year and overall, the quality of the wines submitted was far superior this than in years past."

George McClintock, of Arroyo Grande, won Best of Show and Best Red Wine for his Cabernet Sauvignon; Stephen Freyaldenhoven, of San Luis Obispo, won Best of White/Rose/Fruit Wine for his strawberry wine;  and David Runstrom, of Arroyo Grande, won Best Dessert WIne for his Running Steam Port.
