James Kenneth Brown Sr. was born in 1936 and passed away on Feb. 11, 2018. Jim was born in Atascadero and lived in San Miguel during his youth and early adulthood. A youth Counselor, Jim retired from California Youth Authority in 1992. Jim has been a resident of Heritage Ranch for the past 22 years where he lived with his second wife, Carroll Black-Brown.
Jim was a lifetime sports fan and avid golfer. Graduating from Paso Robles High School in 1954 he was a quarterback on two CIF football teams, was a starting guard on a CIF basketball team and earned seven varsity letters in baseball, also CIF champions. He was inducted into the Bearcat Hall of Fame in 2008. During and following high school Jim served in the California National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Smith Brazzi and his father, Richard Anderson.
In 1957 Jim married Judith Rockwell and their four children include daughter Kelly brown (Phil Hursell) and grandson, Taylor hursell, daughter Carrie Cox (Blake) and granddaughters Rachel and Lindsey Cox, sons james K. Brown Jr. and Korey brown and always a part of Jim’s immediate family his sister-in-law, jill Rockwell lusk and brother-in-law James Rockwell.
Jim’s step-children include Kent (robin) black, Brenda DeBellis, Sherril Roth-Costaneda ( louie) and Michael Black.
His maternal family owned a large ranch in Parkfield in the early years of the last century. A native son in the truest sence, Jim’s heritage includes the local Salinan Native American Tribe.
Graveside service will be private. A memorial service will be held at the Paso Robles Golf Club on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
