James (Jim) Reninger born on June 4, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Friday night, Jan. 2, 2019, after a brief few hours at the French Hospital in San Luis Obispo. He had battled a progressive heart condition for several years.
Jim resided in Atascadero and is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughter Rebecca Heat; son Jeffery Reninger of Atascadero; and his sister, Barbara McKinney of Bandera, Texas. Jim leaves his five beloved grandchildren: Matthew Heath, Felicia Reninger, Joshua Reninger, Bethany Reninger, and Paige Martinez. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Waylon Reninger.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara (Bunny); parents Winston and Josephine Reninger; and brother William (Bill) Reninger.
Jim grew up and attended schools in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was in the first graduating class of the new San Marcos High School in 1961 and a star football player. He attended Santa Barbara City College and completed Carpenter Apprenticeship. Jim was very proud to enlist and serve in the US Marine Corps (Ooh-Rah!) during the 1960s.
Jim and his family moved to Atascadero in 1979. He was the owner of Reninger Construction for nearly 40 years and worked as a Building Contractor throughout San Luis Obispo County. Jim was a member of the Atascadero Lions Club and participated in many of the club’s community service projects and fundraising events. Jim was a skilled marksman and looked forward to target shooting with his son (Jeff) and grandson (Josh). He enjoyed attending and watching NASCAR and football games. Most of all Jim enjoyed spoiling his grandkids.
Family and friends are invited to a “Celebration of Jim’s Life” at the Grange Hall (Lions Club) 5035 Palma Ave., Atascadero on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we would greatly appreciate a donation made to the “Children’s Tumor Foundation,” 120 Wall St., 16th floor, New York, NY 10005-3904. Thank you very much.
