High-speed pursuit ends at Atascadero High School

Schools placed on lockdown and shelter in place

NORTH COUNTY — A high-speed chase ended at Atascadero High School with the arrest of a woman Friday morning, Nov. 2.

Law enforcement was in pursuit of a vehicle when they notified Creston Elementary around 9 a.m. that they would be passing by the school and asked to have the school shelter in place until they had passed per school officials.

The pursuit continued into Atascadero where the suspect drove onto the campus of Atascadero High School and the pursuit was terminated and the suspect, a woman was placed into custody.

The Atascadero High School was also placed on a brief lockdown and then transitioned into a shelter in place until the area was cleared.

The Atascadero Unified School District Superintendent’s office sent a district-wide message to all parents letting them know about the details of the shelter in place and the lockdown.

“We want our school community to know that all students and staff are safe at all sites,” AUSD officials stated in an email. “We thank law enforcement for the continued partnership in communication and efforts to keep our students safe.”
