ATASCADERO — On Wednesday, girls varsity golfers converged on Chalk Mountain Golf Course from Atascadero, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, and Arroyo Grande to compete in PAC 8 League Finals. Only a few strokes separated the top teams as the competition picked up on the back nine. For the first time this season, the girls played a full 18 holes in competition and this year Atascadero was the host, which is why the event was held at Chalk Mountain.
The Bearcats finished in fifth place overall, shooting a combined 584 overall. Paso Robles was led by their number three golfer Kayla Hernandez who shot a 104 for the Bearcats. Many of the girls, for all of the teams, struggled on the back nine as was the case for Paso Robles. Bearcats number one golfer Kayla Williams finished her round shooting a 119 with a 56 on the front and a 63 on the back. Number two golfer Hailie Smith ended her round with a 117 registering a 55 on the front nine and a 62 on the back. Josie Scruggs, the Bearcats number four golfer, shot the second lowest round for the team, finishing with a 115 overall, and Tori Stewart finished with a 129. The girls were competing with St.Joseph for the fifth place spot and just edged them due to solid team play. St. Joseph finished with an overall score of 588, only four points behind Paso, even with their lowest round being seven strokes lower and having a full team with the ability to throw out their highest score.
San Luis Obispo finished in first place with a 499, Righetti finished in second with a 503, Atascadero finished third with a 514, Arroyo Grande finished fourth with a 515, Pioneer Valley finished seventh with a 657 and Mission Prep finished eighth only having a single golfer. Isabel Carpenter of SLO high shot the low round of the day finishing with an 80 overall.
